19 Killed, 4 Injured as Tipper Collides with RTC Bus

In a devastating road accident early on Monday morning, 19 people lost their lives and four others sustained severe injuries when a gravel-laden tipper lorry collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Chevella in Ranga Reddy district, police officials confirmed.

The collision, which occurred around 6:30 AM, sent shockwaves through the local community. The impact caused a massive fallout of gravel, burying several passengers beneath the mangled bus. Tragically, among those killed were 10 women and the bus driver, who was transporting passengers from Tandur to Hyderabad.

Authorities reported that the total number of bus passengers at the time of the incident was difficult to ascertain immediately, as the survivors were left in a state of shock, unable to provide details of the accident. “We are still gathering facts,” said a senior police officer on the scene.

Rescue operations commenced promptly, with local teams arriving swiftly to the accident site. Earthmovers were deployed to alleviate the wreckage, allowing rescue workers to extricate trapped passengers. Those injured received emergency treatment at nearby hospitals.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound sorrow over the incident, directing Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to supervise the relief and rescue operations on a war footing. He also instructed cabinet ministers to rapidly reach the accident site and ensure immediate support to the victims and their families.

In a statement, the Chief Minister ordered that the injured be evacuated to Hyderabad for advanced medical care. “The government stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families,” he assured.

This tragic accident highlights the persistent safety challenges on India’s roads. With commercial vehicles like tipper lorries frequently involved in accidents, local authorities must reconsider road safety measures and regulations to prevent future tragedies.

The Ranga Reddy district has witnessed similar incidents in the past, prompting public outcries for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better infrastructure. Community leaders have called for an urgent review of accident hotspots within the area.

Families of the victims have begun to congregate at hospitals, anxiously awaiting updates on their loved ones. “We can’t believe this has happened. Our hearts go out to all the families affected,” remarked one local resident.

The Telangana government has announced a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to this catastrophe, aiming to uncover any neglect or breaches of safety codes that may have contributed to the accident. Community support initiatives are also expected to follow to assist the bereaved families in the aftermath of this tragic incident.
