In a proactive move to curb unlawful activities, Awantipora Police have launched an inquiry into vehicle transactions within the district. This operation began on October 1, 2023, and aims to address rising concerns regarding the misuse of vehicles for illicit purposes.
As part of this initiative, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) visited various car dealerships to meticulously scrutinize the records associated with buying and selling vehicles. Police officials highlighted that these inspections focus primarily on cases where individuals purchase multiple vehicles—a pattern that typically raises red flags about potentially suspicious activities.
Each dealership must maintain comprehensive records that include crucial details such as Aadhaar information, telephone numbers, and contact details of both buyers and sellers. This step aims to boost transparency and accountability in vehicle transactions, which can significantly deter illegal activities.
The police stated that the inquiry coincides with their broader effort to strengthen surveillance systems against the backdrop of increased motor vehicle-related crimes. The push to enhance scrutiny aligns with ongoing concerns that vehicles can be exploited for anti-social activities.
SSP Awantipora, speaking about this drive, emphasized, “Preventive policing is key to our strategy. By closely monitoring vehicle transactions, we can mitigate potential misuse by anti-social or anti-national elements.” His statement underlined the importance of addressing these concerns before they escalate.
Moreover, the SSP said that the cooperation of the public and car dealers is vital. He urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to vehicle purchases. Engaging in dialogue with dealerships also forms part of building a robust framework against criminal enterprise.
The Awantipora Police reaffirmed their commitment to public safety, stating that they will continue to adopt proactive measures. The inquiry into vehicle transactions is a vital component of this commitment, ensuring that local law enforcement can quickly respond to potential threats.
With this initiative, the Awantipora Police aim to bolster their preventive capabilities and contribute to a safer community. Enhanced scrutiny of vehicle transactions represents a significant stride in the police department’s ongoing quest to maintain peace and security in the region.
