PATNA, Nov 14: Early trends in the Bihar Assembly elections indicate a strong lead for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which currently holds 166 seats out of 243. This lead significantly exceeds the majority mark of 122 seats, as reported by the Election Commission.
The opposition coalition, known as the INDIA bloc, lags considerably with leads in only 59 constituencies. As officials noted, the vote count is ongoing, and these figures could change as additional counting rounds take place.
Within the NDA’s stronghold, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads in 72 seats, while its ally Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) maintains a lead in 71 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Rashtriya Vikas) occupies 18, Hindustan Awami Morcha (Secular) claims four, and Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha leads in one.
On the opposing side, the INDIA bloc’s major players face challenges. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leads in 43 seats, while the Indian National Congress holds eight. Other parties such as CPI(ML)-Liberation and CPI claim six and one respectively. Notably, the Jan Suraaj Party led by Prashant Kishor and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) of Mukesh Sahani struggle, trailing in all of their contested seats.
Among prominent candidates, RJD’s Khesari Lal Yadav trails in Chhapra, while BJP’s Maithili Thakur leads in Alinagar. The RJD’s Osama Shahab showcases strength with a lead in Ragunathpur, and JD(U) minister Leshi Singh is ahead in the Dhamdaha constituency.
Tejashwi Yadav, the chief ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc, shows promise with a lead in Raghopur. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha also secure leads in their respective constituencies of Tarapur and Lakhisarai.
However, in a surprising turn, Tej Pratap Yadav of the RJD finds himself in fourth place in Mahua, with LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh taking the lead there.
While early trends project a clear advantage for the NDA, all eyes remain on the continuous counting process as electoral dynamics may still shift. The implications of this election could reshape the political landscape of Bihar as the public awaits the final results.
